Creating Master Images
Step 1
Installing the application (VitalSourceTM Bookshelf)
To set up the application you will need to do two things:
1. Download the software installer from the our website (URL below)
2. Run the software installer.
NOTE: All actions for installation of the VitalSourceTM Bookshelf application
must be done while logged in as an administrator. Do not run
VitalSourceTM Bookshelf after installation on the master image machine.
For Apple Mac OS X images you can also install to a separate drive if
setting up a clean image.
Where to get the installer
VitalSourceTM ordinarily delivers its software installers to image creators over the Internet. This is the easiest way for us to ensure that you get the most up-to-date version, and it usually makes for the quickest delivery. In some cases, though, bandwidth or other concerns make downloading the file problematic for some customers. In those cases, we are happy to send a CD-based installer. Contact our support team if you need this or any other kind of special assistance. You can download the most up-to-date VitalSourceTM Bookshelf application installer at any time at this URL:
http://www.VitalSource.com/downloads
Please remember to make sure you are logged in as the Administrator before running the installer.
NOTE: For Microsoft Windows installations, the Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 is needed for VitalSourceTM Bookshelf to run. The VitalSourceTM Bookshelf installer will check to make sure the framework is present, and if it is not, the installer will download and install it for you. For this reason, make sure you are connected to the Internet during installation. Please note that due to differences in the Windows for Tablet OS, the automatic .NET install will not occur. Please make sure that .NET 2.0 is installed on any tablet images before you run our installer.
You should now run the installer, following all of the prompts, to install the application onto your master image.
You must un-check "Run VitalSourceTM Bookshelf" on the last page of the installer.
Windows users: If this machine will be used by multiple users, make sure that a shortcut is created in the "All Users" folder in whatever subfolder is desired (Desktop, Favorites, or Start Menu). By default, only the installing user will have access from the "All Programs" menu. Rename the shortcut "VitalSourceTM Bookshelf."
