New search in Bookshelf 3.7

One of the things you’ll notice right away in the new VitalSourceTM Bookshelf 3.7 is an improved search interface. A single search box in the main bookshelf window will find books by title or author, as well as search inside those books for the terms you specify. The search results are also much more responsive, and will begin displaying matches for your query as soon as it has found them.

Let’s dive into a few examples of how the new search works. The most simple case is to find a specific book—just enter part of it’s title or author. If you have the VitalSourceTM Library, for example, you might click on the All Titles collection to tell Bookshelf to search all books, then enter “hamlet” in the search box. You’ll first see results with hamlet in the title, such as Shakespeare work, and below that, any books that contained hamlet inside their contents.

Now at that point you could simply open a book to read or search further. You can also narrow down your results inside the main bookshelf window by adding terms to the query. For example, “hamlet madness” would return Hamlet and any matches inside the book for “madness”. (The order of the terms in the search box doesn’t matter.) This also works with quoted, exact-phrase searches, such as in the following screenshot:
